The Retail Excellence Ireland 4th Quarter Review 2012 indicated a slight upturn in retail sales by +0.21%.
One of the better performing retail industry sectors during the fourth quarter was the Home & Giftware sector increasing sales levels compared with the fourth quarter in 2011. Overall performance in the following sectors Furniture & Flooring, Ladies Fashions and Pharmacy was down slightly.
November proved to be the most challenging month of the quarter. Pre-budget speculation in October, which caused a decrease in consumer sentiment, is the main reason for this.
Speaking at the publication of the Q4 2012 retail figures, REI Chief Executive Officer, David Fitzsimons, said: “The slight increase in retail sales during Q4 2012 is very welcome, however the sector still remains fragile.
